Trojan Virus hits Android Phones

There have been reports surfacing across the web that the first virus has been detected on Android phones.
Computer Security company, Kaspersky, has found a an Android app called ‘Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.a’
The app basically pretends to be a media-player application, but once installed sends SMS messages to premium high cost numbers without the owners knowledge.
Often, the number being SMS’d is also the owner of the virus, profiting from their own scam.
Kaspersky Labs is working on anti-virus technologies for the Android phones and we suspect Google will help remedy this issue in a timely manner.
In terms of the iPhone which has been around for several years now – we don’t often hear of iPhone virus or trojans hitting phones. Yes it has happened, but usually only to jailbroken units, and even then the reports are low.
Android owners should double check the applications they are downloading especially when they are external of the Android marketplace.
