Twitter – 140 Million Active Users

Twitter has just turned 6 years old (on the 21/03/12) and they have shared some interesting new stats with us.

To me it seems Twitter has only really taken off in Australia over the last 2 years.

What was going on during the previous 4 years?

New stats released:

• 140 million active user (globally)
• 340 million tweets per day (still increasing)

Considering there has been speculation that Twitter has close to 500,000 accounts – it just goes to show how many are actually active. There is no doubt Twitter has done a good job getting new users, but keeping them active is a challenge.

The integration with Apple has been one of the biggest wins for Twitter in my opinion. This ensures that Twitter will be continually promoted through Apple devices for years to come.
